I have only just taken control of this blog.

This is my second post.

And here I am saying goodbye to another pal.

The lovely golden gentleman above is Homer.

He was one of the pack at the Bumpass Hounds,

but yesterday his mom and dad helped

him make the journey to the bridge.

He was ready to go, and with the help of

his humans and the staff at his Vet's

office, he made the journey peacefully

and surrounded by love. If you have

a moment, leave them a note, OK?

He joins Miss Maggie in the crop of "new kids"

and we will surely miss both of them.

Our love and terrier nose bops to their

humans.

Teka here with some truly bad tidings.

Sweet Miss Maggie crossed the Bridge yesterday.

She leaves behind her brother Mitch, her human

Mom and Dad, and a legion of Blogville fans.

Miss Maggie was an inspiration to all "sister" dogs.

She taught Mitch all he knows, kept him in line and

made his life a bit spicier and a bit sweeter.

I have been a pretty morose doggie lately.

You know, my sweetie Miss Asta is moving to Pest

With her Mommi and Daddi. And while I know that

my friends will help me get across the Pee, it just won't be the same.

So, as a WFT who was pretty much raised on American Musicals,

I have created a new masterpiece!

Based on the Classic West Side Story,

I present the story of star crossed lovers Asta and Gussie, who

Yesterday when we were on one of our walkies, this lovely blue grey car pulled up to the curb, and a man got out and said "more Fox Terrier people, how wonderful."

While the humans never got his name, he did smell wonderful and familiar, and he told me how handsome I was and made lots of friendly noises. He also gave good scritches.

We got to talking about training. And we promised to put our trainer Valerie's contact information here for him.

Muzzer and dad say we are a lot better since she began working with us (and them) and we do appreciate her efforts on our behalf.

Here is what she has accomplished in just about 90 days:

The magic work is AAAAACKKKK
Teka and I SIT
Teka and I STAY
Teka and I respond to "let's go" with a good strong heel.
Teka and I SIT when our leashes come out.
Teka and I will walk by dogs fenced in yards and behind doors and mostly ignore them. Muzzer and dad have learned to "talk" us through the challenge of not responding and it is effective about 85% of the time.
The other 15%, the humans will put us in a strong heel by turning 180 degrees and walking away from the challenge, then they put us back through it until we hold our heel. And no, no other dog has jumped the fence to get at us while we do this, though there is a Pomeranian a block away who is considering that as an option.
Teka and I each have a PLACE where we go when directed to do that, like when people come to the door.
Teka and I have learned to love Turkey hot dog bits. This was not hard.

On the other hand, we still do not respond well to other dogs, particularly those who are off lead and come running toward us. But we will be working on it in the future.

Teka has been banned from Stony Point!

OK. Yesterday while I was at the dog spa getting clipped, dipped and squeezed, my no good human parents took Teka to Stony Point.

Stony Point is not far from our house. Both of my Sissies have been there, and Mom and Dad go there every once in a while to look for "stuff." Plus, there is a Three Dog Bakery there, so every time they go we get treats and goodies. (Three Dog is on the left hand side of this photo, it has the dog out front.) Stony Point is "animal friendly" which means that most stores which do not sell human food let dogs come inside, and there are water bowls and treat stops.

AnyWay! Their excuse for abandoning me and taking Teka on this outing was " so we can see how well her socialization training is working!"

YEAH. Right.

So off they went like the naive and trusting humans they are, and they were feeling pretty good about their experiment. Got past a Great Dane without Teka attacking. Walked past a couple of Bernese with no ill effects. Had a bit of a moment when she spotted the Westie and the Westie spotted her, but hey...they are terriers after all.

So, they were supposed to be Christmas shopping for the sissies. And they went into Dillards and back to the pajama department, because it is kind of a "thing" for the muzzer to get the children pajamas for Christmas. So. ..... Teka takes one look around, sees there are no pajamas with Jack Russells on them, and takes a BIG (I mean Gussie sized!) poop dump on the carpet.

Now, y'all don't know the parents around here. But they are pretty uptight, and look very Republican and proper. (Even though they are not either, but that is another story and maybe Emily will help me type it at Christmas time.) Can people in their 60s still Blush? Ummmm Yeah Shur, you Betcha!

So, as Teka tells the end of this, Dad picked her up, Muzzer picked up the poop in her handy dandy bio degradable environmentally proper baggie, and they both left the store by the nearest exit. Wish I had been there to take a photo ;)

Hehehehe...Teka spent the rest of the visit in the car. Did the sissies ever get their pajamas? Only time will tell, but muzzer and dad did come home with little umbrellas from their drinks at Starbucks. (and I know they don't put umbrellas in the drinks there, because Miss Lacie told me!)

See. They took the wrong doggie. But I get to go next time, Muzzer said.

My Pal Bussie reminded us today of this wonderful video (see below) that Pappy and his dad made - lo those many years ago, when DWB was young and new, we were all younger than we are now, and I still got the occasional chicken jerky treat. (don't ask, it is not a pretty story)

Sigh...but this is worth sharing. Maybe you want to pass it along too?

None of us are as young as we used to be, and some of us have crossed the bridge. The spirit still lives and we are all better for that.

Eartha's Birth-a-day Wishes

Good Morning, Dogs of the Blogosphere. It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

This lady I live with E. Rabbit says it is a very important day today. At first I thought she was still just happy from watching those Cardinals from St. Louis win the baseball game last night, but it turns out she was talking about it being that lady named Muzzer's birthday.

Here is a picture of that lady named Muzzer with that dog who is my cousin, Teka.

(I am not sure if that dog Teka is in disguise now, or if she is usually in disguise, and this picture reveals her secret identity)

I have only met this lady called Muzzer once, and it was on MY Eartha Birth-a-day. And she bought me all kinds of presents -- anchovies and sardines and caviar!

So I have to work on finding a good present for her. To that end, I am watching the area that MOUSE I gave E. Rabbit came out of, in the hopes of catching one for that Muzzer.

She can either have it stuffed and mounted as a decoration, or enjoy it as a side dish with her birth-a-day cake.

Until I catch her a mouse, though, I thought I'd enlist all of you doggies in helping me and that dog who is my uncle, Gus, and that other dog who is my cousin (and maybe a witch), Teka, and E. Rabbit and E. Beth and that guy they call dad in wishing her a HAPPY BIRTH-A-DAY.

Hello, Dogs of the Internet. It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

All you dogs who read this blog know that that dog who is my uncle, Gus, and that other dog who is my cousin, Teka, are in St. Louis for awhile because they went on a ROAD TRIP.

But did you know that this lady I live with, E. Rabbit, went WITH THEM???

And that while she was on this road trip with those dogs, she left ME, Eartha Kitteh, at home in our apartment? ALONE? With only some dude to come in and feed me and cuddle me a few times a day?

Now, it is not that I object to having the apartment to myself for awhile. As long as some dude shows up to feed me once in awhile and clean my box, and as long as I have plenty of cat toys to play with, I am ok on my own. In fact, I stayed on my own for a whole WEEK last year while that lady went to Italy.

But I cannot have her running off to travel with D-O-G-Ses all the time. She was gone for five and a half days and came back with terrier hairs all over her clothes! Only MY hairs are supposed to be all over her clothes.

So when she got back last night, I gave her a PRESENT. Can you guess what it was?

It was a MOUSE. I killed it for her, and left it right in the middle of the kitchen floor, where she would be sure to find it.

I must say, she did not seem terribly impressed with this present. She just sighed, got a paper napkin, picked him up by the tail and dropped him in the trash with my most recent poops and some spinach that had gone bad while she was away.

I will have to think of some better presents for next time. Perhaps she would prefer a small lizard?

Time to Celebrate, Internet Doggies!

Good Morning, Doggies of the Internet! It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

I woke this lady E. Rabbit up early this morning, because it is a VERY IMPORTANT day. "Hey lady," I said to her. "Wake up! It is time to CELEBRATE."

Do you know what we are CELEBRATING today, doggies? No, it is not the feast of St. Ceolfrith. It is not the day the Bill of Rights was passed. It is not the birthday of William Faulkner or Phil Rizzuto or Shel Silverstein or T.I. or Frederick William II of Prussia.

All those things happened on September 25, but we are CELEBRATING today because it is my EARTHA-VERSARY!
This is what I looked like ONE YEAR AGO TODAY when I first came to live with this lady E. Rabbit. She and some of her friends came and got me out from under the house where I was living with my Dad Cat and some other stray kitties after my Mom Cat and her people moved and left me behind.

At first I did not think that living with her was going to be such a good thing. Yes, it was more comfortable than living out of doors, and the food supply was more consistent, but she also made me do stupid things like go to the VET, who gave me shots and put thermometers in undignified places. And then that vet made this lady give me medicines in my eyes and ears because I had infections, and down my gullet because I had wormies in my POOP.

But then I realized that the benefits outweighed the disadvantages. Like outside, I did not have all sorts of awesome toys that I could kill.

And I never had the chance to learn about the finer things in life, like wine smelling.
This one has an excellent bouquet.

And I would never have met my good friend, the Ornj Dog.
I like to carry him around by his scruff, like mom cats do their kittens.

On the other hand... if I'd stayed living outside, I would never have had to wear this stupid outfit at Christmas time.
But I ALSO would've never gotten a lot of TOYS from Santa Claws at Christmas (Santa Claws cannot find kitties who do not have a fixed address).
And I never would've learned to keep myself calm and centered by practicing YOGA.
This is called "Sideways Facing Cat Pose." It is very good for your core.

And I would not have learned about BASEBALL.
This is me saying "Go Nats!" I root for the Nats because Nats rhymes with cats, and because we live in DC (*and because we don't have a Cardinals helmet in cat size. --E. Rabbit).

I would probably not even have gotten a celebration for my first birthday in June...
....much less a bunch of awesome presents like the ones that dog Gus's muzzer got me.

So I talked to this lady about what we were going to do to celebrate our EARTHA-VERSARY. She said I could have a new TOY from the stash of cat toys she keeps hidden (because she thinks I already have too many toys. She is wrong, but there is no convincing her of this).

And she said she would go to the store and get a piece of SALMON that we can share for dinner. I will have mine with kibble; she will have hers with greens or pasta or something lame.

And she said she got me a PRESENT. It is blue to match my beautiful eyes, and it has pirate skulls and crossbones on it because I'm TOUGH.
I am not entirely sold on this present yet. It's very pretty, but it may not be my thing.

Hurricanes and other stuffs

I thought it was about time that I got busy and

let you all know that we are F.I.N.E.!

(Frantic, Insecure, Neurotic and Excitable!)

But really. The Hurricane was a non-event for me,

and mostly for Gussie too.

We had no power, so there were no lights in the house

and no cold air coming out of my vents. The humans

were upset for some reason about not having any hot

water for their beloved showers, but I am not all

that fond of showers, warm or otherwise.

(I prefer a bubble bath you know?)

What it meant was that we used up Muzzer's supply

of beeswax candles that match her "special" dishes.

And on Sunday ALL of us got to be piggies with

the shrimps that were residing in the freezer.

After the Muzzer grilled them. YUM!

BUT...on the plus side me n Gussie did not

miss even one walkie. And because the house was

dark earlier than usual, all of us climbed in the big

bed together a bit earlier than we usually do.

Gussie griped because bedtime stories were shorter

and they were almost always ones that Muzzer or Dad

knew by heart. But I like "Goodnight Moon" and "The Little

Engine that Could" and I hardly ever look at the pictures in the

books anyway. So.........

And in the mornings I made sure everyone got up a little

earlier than usual so we could get Dad ready for work on time.

There were lots of trees like this big

one that ended their distinguished arboreal

lives in this most undignified manner. And

that made me kind of sad.

But it brought the squirrels a lot closer to the ground

for at least a little while.

And out on Dad's campus, there were lots

of trees like this one. But they didn't cancel

classes, not even for one day. So all of

the Botany Buffs got to see reality close up

and personal.

And the weather stayed reasonably cool

(for Richmond in August) so even with

all of us in the big bed and no fans available

it was comfortable sleeping.

So I am counting my blessings and saying

that I hope we don't go through this again

too soon, and I hope that everyone

else has their power back and that we

all have a better week than the last one.

Hey there, dogs and peoples. It is me again, Eartha Kitteh.

This lady E. Rabbit thought you might be missing those dogs Gus and Teka while they are still not having power in Richmond. So she said I could share with you some of the pictures she took of them the last time she visited.

She does not want you dogs to get Gus and Teka withdrawal, you see.

So here is that other dog, Teka.

She is in that guy Dad's office. She knows that this office is where that guy Dad thinks all of his important thoughts, so she is trying to have important thoughts of her own while she's there.

She is somewhat limited in her capacity to do this, if you ask me.

And here is that dog who is my uncle, Gus.
He is saying "Pbbbbblllllt to you, Dominion Power. Give me my lights and internet back!"

I am sitting in this lady E. Rabbit's underwear drawer. I know you are not having withdrawal from me, but I thought you would like to see this picture anyway, since I am very good looking.

We still do not have power.

We have hijacked the compooter at my Dad's office but it is a mastadon!

Our kibble supply is still ample, but we are below 26 lbs, so we know have less kibble than we do Gussie and Teka is eyeing me strangely!

Eartha Gives The All-Clear

Good morning, doggies and people. It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

That dog Gus who everyone says is my uncle texted me this morning on his muzzer's cell phone and asked if I could let you all know that he and that other dog Teka and those people they live with are all OK.

They just do not have any electricity at the moment, so he cannot update his blog himself. That Irene hurricane knocked out their power down in Richmond, but didn't hurt them or their house.

We are fine here in DC, too -- we still have our power and our internet and everything, which is why I can update this blog even though that dog Gus cannot.

We also have a lot of extra cans of BEANS and CAT FOODS because this lady E. Rabbit was convinced things were going to go all catty-wampus.

I do not think catty-wampus sounds like a bad thing, especially as it results in our having a huge stockpile of canned CAT FOODS.

But to recap: every dog and cat and person affiliated with this dog Gus and his blog are OK. Further updates as they are available.

We are having some busy times at our house, and it is interfering with our blogging.

Since we came back from our trip to St. Loulis and Mayemphis, both Aunt Marie and our Grandpa have gone to the hospital.

Aunt Marie is doing better, still in the Health Center where she lives, but we hope that her cracked pelvis heals quickly and she is ready for another visit from us by Christmas time.

Our Grandpa is not so good. His surgery went well, but he is still in the hospital after two weeks, and just this morning, our dad flew to Azrizona to see him.

We ask that you remember both Aunt Marie and Grandpa in your prayers, and hold all of us close to your hearts.

On a much lighter note, we have heard that our Sissie E.Beth is coming to visit us this week, to help keep the muzzer in line and on track. She is lots of fun.

All this is a most involved way of telling you that we are doing our best to keep up with reading and comments, but we don't have much heart for blogging. We hope you understand. We love you all.

The world famous, much revered

Miss Sophie la Brador

came to visit our most

humble abode.

She deigned to greet her subjects

from her personal travelling crate.

(which is why it is not solid gold,

as she is accustomed to, ya know?)

First I, Gustavus Adolphus Dagger

approached and paid my respects.

She rewarded my homage with a benevolent nod

of her magnificent head, and dismissed

me to my terrier duties.

Miss Teka, of course

was far more bold.

Venturing to put her entire brazen

head into the royal abode.

For which she was rebuked with

the cut direct and a chilling stare.

Once the minions had been dismissed,

the beautiful Miss Sophie

took a well deserved rest

from her travels.

She ventured into Carytown to see the sights,

while Teka and I pined at home. We are

not as well behaved or well socialized, you see.

We hope she enjoyed the Sweet Frog!

So, we are having a quiet afternoon waiting for Miss Sophie LaBrador to arrive.

And look what the FedEx man left on the porch!

Here I am, helping the Muzzer open this box.

It is very well sealed, and smells most interesting!

Inside the box, there was ANOTHER Box, that looked a lot like this one.

And then, ANOTHER most special box that looked like THIS!

Guess who ELSE is coming to dinner?

It is FLAT TEKA!

And FLAT GUSSIE!

They have come all the way from Flori Duh

so they can go with Mom and Dad this weekend while Teka and I are occupied.

(oops, the dumb muzzer forgot to rotate this picture, so tilt your head to the left a bit to see my handsome self, OK?)

Teka is checking out Flat Gussie to see if his ears taste as good as mine!

She was discouraged from this behavior when muzzer bopped her on the nose with her flat self.

I'll be no one else ever figured out that flat selves are most useful for this. Leave it to Muzzer.

I also spend much time sniffing the wrapping papers from the inside, and I can tell you that Jake and JH are having a lot of yummy smelling treats and that they have visitors at their house!!

Okay, so we are a day late on this, but we are sure Joe Stains would understand that you take a cheeseburger whenever you can find it.

Or Fries for that matter.

This place is not as close to our house as

the Greek Festival is, but we have heard that it is yummy, and the muzzer has been wanting to try it.

So, for lunch today we sent her to

Five Guys Burger and Fries

Which is over in the

"Shops at Willow Lawn"

and not too far from our local Petsmart.

The burgers were good,

very moist and juicy.

The fries were not as good as

Steak and Shake, but we figured it was OK,

because this guy eats there sometimes.

And we think Joe would have

approved, even though we were a day late.

It is Greek Festival weekend at Sts. Constantine and Helen

Greek Orthodox Cathedral just down the street

from our house. This is the 35th Annual Festival, and

it is a big deal here in the Capitol of the Commonwealth.

There were seventeen dance groups scheduled for

this evening. And a lot of impromptu dancing around

the stage and in the lines waiting for foods.

My muzzer and Dad did not pawticipate, though they

enjoyed the dancing and the costumes.

This is the line for takeout food.

There are traffic policemen directing the traffic

on our part of Cary Street Rd., and lots of

folks are trolling for parking.

Fortunately, we live close enough to walk.

Here is ONE of the food tents.

There were four lines, and eight

checkout people!

And there were smaller tents for specialties like

Gyros and Limonata and seafood

Muzzer had Souvlaki

and Rice Pilaf

And a wonderful salad.

Dad had Tiropita,

Spanakopita

Yahni

Dolmadi

Pilaf

A Shrimp Skewer

And a salad.

They brought home Baklava, Ergolavi, Greek donuts,

Galaktoboureko*

and some wonderful fennel flavored butter cookies.

YUM.

We got leftovers, and now I know that I would

enjoy a trip to the Greek Isles.

Reunion

We are suspending the auction for today

in order to celebrate the reunion

between my best pal Butcho

and his beautiful Sissie Miss Snickers,

which is scheduled for approximately

Butcho has been having a very hard time of it.

His Mama and Daddy have listened to his

wishes, and they will let him go to join

Miss Snickers and the others at the Bridge.

Butcho has offered to carry kisses to your loved ones

waiting for you there, and the requests have been pouring in.

So at 6:00 pm in Richmond, we will join all of you to

speed Butchy on his way with lots of kisses which he

will share with well loved pets, and with those who deserved

to be loved better while they were here with us.

So in a sense we will be the wind beneath his wings

as he soars toward the Bridge on our kisses.

The item for today is an Outward Hound Backpack that our pal Bocci sent me for winning a contest a couple of months ago. It is a medium, because I am a medium dog (except, ya know, I have a big heart, right?) and the color is called Red Clay, or for you fans of the Az. Diamondbacks, Sedona Red.

I think this is neat. But....it doesn't fit Teka and it doesn't fit the muzzer so........I am NOT carrying their lipsticks and wet wipes and sunscreen and personal fans around on my back.

Many, Many years ago my sissie E. Rabbit gave the

muzzer a really neat present for Schmauss.

It was a box with all the instructions you need to make

doggie biscuits. Even the biscuit cutters.

And lots of recipes.

Well, the muzzer being the lazy type that she is has

NEVER used this neat pressie. It had something to do with

me and Teka being totally in love with the

Tuna Fish cookies that Jake and Fergi's mom made for

us, and so generously even included the recips.

So with apologies to E.Rabbit,

we are offering today the complete biscuit box

for hoomans who REALLY love their doggies.

Muzzer says it is either a really cute "bait" pouch

for training puppies and dogs, or just

another tacky coin purse to

wear on your belt.

She bought it one time when she was in "training" mode.

She thought she would put treats in there so she

isn't always running around with crumbs in her pockets.

Well, the first time she tried to use it

Me and Teka jumped her and knocked her

down so we could get to the goodies!

End of story.

Alternatively, we have used it a couple of times on

walkies, and it holds a full roll of those little baggie

things quite nicely!

In fact, we will include three rolls of black doggie do-do bags

with this offer. Just in case there are other naughty

terriers (or mastiffs) out there who would do what we did.

Pouch measures 4 x 4 inches square, and is

1.5 inches at the widest opening, tapers to the bottom.

Hi pals, it is me, Gussie here to describe the

first item in the Auction to help my good pal Butcho

Today we have a lovely scarf, for all the muzzer types out there.

Personally, I think it would make a most elegant kerchief for a dog about

my size, but muzzer says to forget it.

OK...This is a square scarf, no tags, probably ca. 1960s or early 70s.

Fabric composition is not silk, but probably a blend of poly whatever and rayon,

based on the feel and "hand" (or paw) of the fabric.

Primary colors are White, Blue and Red, with assorted

doggie colors represented. There are 52 dogs

shown two times each on the scarf, but there

are some duplicates of breed in different poses or costumes.

(Like the ever popular WFT!) You can click on the picture to bigify it,

(I hope)

Now, this is the left hand side of the right hand side shown above,

but of course, with the amma choore photographer helping me, they

look like two sides of entirely different scarfs, right. But you can see

more of the doggies represented. We tried to get close-ups, but

recognized the limitations of the cheap help around here.

The scarf measures about 20 inches square.

Muzzer says a 21 inch square is more common, so I

ask you, once again, to learn to live with her disabilities.

She says to tell you it is exactly as long as the inside of her right arm

from her thumb to her shoulder.

Whatever

It is in very good condition, no stains or pulls or tears

EXCEPT for the little snaggy place shown above.

Muzzer says it can either be overcast or hand rolled one

more turn and basted. I told her to keep her paws off of it.

Y'all might know that my pal Butchy in Ioway is having far too many visits from the mean old nasty ugly despicable Seizure Monster. His Momma and his Vet are doing everything they can to make the nasty monster stay away, and I want to help, because Butchy is my pal, and he is also Miss Snickers' brother, and I do not think this is fair.

So Me n' Teka put our heads together (briefly) and we thought up a way to maybe help out with his bills for the Pheno Barbie Doll, the Potassium Bromide, and the Prednisone stuff that he has to take now!

And the muzzer is committed to helping us out.

So, here is our idea.

We have some "dog related" items and also some brand new doggie items that we are not using. Some of them we won from other great blog contests and just haven't put to use yet. Others are "finds" that muzzer will let us have for this auction. Most of them are "dog related" and have pictures of dogs or look like dogs.

Starting tomorrow (if she can find the cord for the camera again!) we will post one item a day on my blog. You can bid on that item by leaving a comment. We will make sure comments show up immediately for a while. You can click the thingy box that lets you know if comments have been left after yours if you want to get notified of a higher bid. Each item will be posted for five days. You will be notified by email if you are the winner, and we will remind you at that time of Butchy's donation site. We will also ask you to send us your physical address thing. Like, snail mail. I apologize for the delay in posting these pictures

of flowers in Virginia on the first day of May.

The muzzer (old person that she is) was unable to find

the cord that makes the photos move from the camera to

the computer. I found the thing under the bed this morning.

Her excuse was that she took it to St. Loulis, and it must've

fallen out when she was unpacking her many trunks and cases.

As you may know, I spent last week in St. Loulis. While there, I took some photos of the damage at the airport (see below) but also discovered how Gussie is funding these trips to New Yawk and across the big pee.

The little devil has a thriving pretzel business in St. Loulis! As I think back, I remember seeing some evidence of this the summer we spent visiting there. I hope he is doing well enough to take care of me in my old age.

Also, here are two (bad) photos of the airport taken a week ago when I arrived.
In the photo above, you can see some of the plywood squares along the front portion of the airport, but you can also see the cracks in the window that I shot the picture through.
And here is the same shot, through another window, without the cracks. By the time I left Friday afternoon, plywood was visible in more places, including the cracked window. I would estimate 70% of the arched windows were damaged. St. Louis was so fortunate that there was no loss of life in the tornado there.

Eartha's Earth Day Message

Hello, people and doggies. It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

Recently, I was reading the wall calendar, which I do sometimes to make sure this lady E. Rabbit is not planning to take me to the V-E-T or to get my beautiful long sharp nails trimmed.

And I saw that today said it was "Eartha Day." Except they'd left the "a" off the end by mistake.

So I said "hey, lady! What is this? Is this my birthday? I thought that was June." And she said "no, Eartha Kitteh, it is Earth Day, not Eartha Day." And she said it was a day to honor and learn about the Earth and environmentalism and things.

Hmph.

Personally, I think Eartha Day would be much more fun than Earth Day. We would all eat lots of tuna and people would give me toys to play with.

But since it is Earth Day and not Eartha Day, I thought I would get into the spirit of things.

Here I am saying "Hey you! You had better recycle these newspapers, or I will SWAT you! Respect the Earth and the Eartha!"

Have you heard? Tomorrow is a party to celebrates Ronnii’s birthday and Richie’s life!

It’s gonna be quite the pawty and I hope you can make it. Even if you don’t know them, I know Ronnii and Momma Tea would enjoy meeting you. It’s gonna be going on all day so be sure to try and stop by, okay?

Oh, and if that’s not enough celebration, my Asta's friends, JD & Max, are holding a commentathon in honor of Richie.

For every comment they get until the 29th, their FH will donate 1 pound UK to the Crossed Paws Organization! That’s the organization that helped raise moneys for Richie’s vet bills so it’s a really, really good cause. They are hoping to raise 200 pounds and that means they need lots and lots of comments.

They also have a cool contest going on over there, so it would definitely be worth the trip!

Plans for the weekend

Hey Y'all

Gussie here....trying to finalize my plans for the weekend.

My sissie E.Rabbit is coming to visit muzzer and dad, and of course, she will bring pressies for me and Teka, too.

But....most wonderful of all, my very bestsest and sweetest doggie friend Miss Asta is coming too!

Wooooo HOOOOOO...I am gonna have a good time.

Most fortunately, my sissy and Miss Asta like to do of the same things, so I am going to be their escort extraordinaire for the weekend.

Of course, I will take them out to dinner on Friday, and I have told E.Rabbit to choose the place and time, because she is a FOODIE! And I know that she was raised to eat well (muzzer cooks stuff all the time.)
So, since that is taken care of...Saturday morning very early we will go to the Virginia Museaum of Fine Arts to see the Picasso exhibit. It is only there for one more month, and we have been having visitors who come to town to see it.

So, I signed up to be a member and I am actually recovering my membership in admission fees and discounts! Wooo HOOOO...I am a PATRON of the ARTS.
I've been to see it a couple of times, scoping out the pictures, and the one above is my most favorite. I think that is because it reminds me of Miss Asta's Mommi, who is an artist herself and truly bootiful. Plus, she lets me taste stuff before she puts it on the table!
And then I think we will head for the Valentine History Museum, because I am thinking that the ladies will enjoy this exhibit of dresses from the first ladies of our land. I took muzzer, but she just got depressed over the small waistlines on the dresses, and I know Miss Asta and E.Rabbit won't be worried about that.
Then we will take this bus back to Carytown for a late lunch and an afternoon of shopping.
How am I doing? Any suggestions for other things we should do? Let me know. I am heavily invested in this weekend, ya know?

Look, internet doggies. I, Eartha Kitteh, am here to speak with you about this game called basketball (which, as far as I can tell, is not as fun as the game called fetch).

The lady I live with, E. Rabbit, says this dog named Gus that she says is my uncle is all sorts of bummed because both teams called "Terriers" are out of the Basketball Tournament.

I would like to point out that by contrast, TWO teams called "Cats" are still in the tournament: the Cats of Kentucky and the Cats of Arizona.

She says these teams are both "Wild Cats," which I thought meant cats who live in the out of doors, as I used to before I moved in with her. But she says they are actually BIG MEAN CATS who live in the mountains and eat smaller cats and dogs and bunnies and things.

I think that sounds like a pretty sweet gig, if you ask me.

She also says that SHE is one of the Wild Cats from Arizona. And then she sings a song called "Bear Down, Arizona" to prove this.

Let us review the evidence, internet doggies and people:

1) She thinks a dog called Gus is my uncle.

2) She thinks another dog called Teka is my cousin.

3) She thinks she is a Wild Cat.

4) She thinks that a song about bears is evidence.

Clearly, this lady is not so bright. But regardless: Go Cats!

And since they pay for the kibble bill around here, I guess they get equal time.

Terriers Eliminated from NCAA tournament!

Dad can burn the TV now.

There will be no more College Basketball for me until next year. BOTH teams (Boston College and Wofford) that have terriers as a mascot have been eliminated from the Tournament in the first round.

The mascot for both teams looks like my pal Joe Stains, shown to the right.

Joey is looking a little glum here. I guess he was looking forward to a bit more fame and lots of good shots of him at courtside as "his" teams advanced in the dance.

But I think Joey would have found it a bit too cold for his liking if his teams made the final four in Houston. So I hope he stays warm and happy in Azrizona and enjoys the sunshine.

(which I miss, just a bit.)

Me and Miss Asta are in New Orleans for a bit of pre Mardi Gras pawtying!

After some difficulty with the crabs for the gumbo escaping from their boxes at JFK in New York, we have officially arrived and met up with some of our pals.....

Here we are with Jake and Miss Fergi having Big Nets at the Cafe Du Monde! Miss Asta and Miss Fergi had that chicory coffee stuff. Me and Jake stuck with the CoCola (see, I can talk Southrin!) A most Welcome Side Effect is that CoCola is quite simpatico with Terrier Vibes, so we should be able to stay awake until early Wednesday morning, which is what Asta and Fergie have in mind anyway!Asta and I had to stop and eat some crawfish (or crayfish, whichever you prefer) and so we picked up a half a basket of crabs to replace the ones we had to abandon at the airport.

ze Gumbo - reprised

Mon cher petit maman, she has been in ze kitchen all day long, cooking up ze file' gumbo. All day long, we 'av been smelling ze crab and ze shrimp. Ze onions and ze garlic! Ze fishy stock and ze roux.

And all day long, le petit Teka has been saying she does not like ze smells. She does not understand why muzzer must be in ze kitchen so much, so zer is no time to play seek-a Teka. So ze dad must take us on ze morning walk. So all we can talk about is ze gumbo! She has not had a taste of ze gumbo like I, Gus Dagger wft, world traveller (well, USA anyway) and famous terrier gourmet. She does not remember ze parties in Virginia when ze muzzer cooked and ze people ate and dropped samples. She has not my sophistication and educated palate.

But me, ze Gus Dagger dog. I know how marvellous is ze gumbo. I know how delicious is ze king cake! I know how handy are ze beer mugs and ze bread plates. Ah yes, ze mardi gras party is about to begin.

And now ze Teka dog knows that it worth ze wait. Now she knows what for is ze long day of preparations! Now she has tasted ze crab and ze shrimp. And slurped the broth out of the abandoned bowls. Now she is sleeping off ze gumbo drunk in her crate. While I, Gus Dagger, must write zis blog so my friends know what was for dinner at our house tonight. And I must go and play my zydeco accordian so all ze guests can dance the fais d0-do and ze two step.

To all our friends from Lexington, we hope you are having a party on your own tonight. And to our friends and hosts still in New Orleans, we know you are celebrating your city and heritage. !

It is I, Eartha Kitteh.

This lady I live with, E. Rabbit, keeps trying to convince me that I have lots of things in common with this dog named Gus she thinks is my uncle, and this other dog she thinks is my cousin, Teka.

So the other day she saw that this dog named Gus had posted a picture of this other dog Teka helping this guy she calls "Dad" with his crossword puzzles.

"Look, Eartha Kitteh," she said to me. "This dog Teka, who is your cousin, is helping Dad with his crossword puzzles. Just like you help me with my puzzles in the morning."

And this is true. I help her with the crossword puzzles AND the sudoku puzzles every morning, because I am a genius with both words and numbers.

So she said I could put up a picture of how I help her with her puzzles:

Here I am saying "no, lady! That word is wrong! Give me that pen! I will fix it for you!"

I think that is much more helpful than that other dog, Teka, who seems to just be sitting there.

I had a wonderful pre Birthday celebration with Miss Asta, and tonight my dad took me out to dinner. Tomorrow night I think Butchy and Asta and Katie and the gang are coming for a poker pawty while Dad goes to Charlottesville. Meet us at the Cary Town Vet, me and Teka have a suite reserved.
I also want to thank Miss Asta for joining me at the Valentine's Pawty. We had a wonderful time!

When we have advenshuurs with my freinds, I love going to see museums and galleries and fine restaurants. Especially the fine restaurants!

In between advenshuurs I miss the museums and galleries. So now my pals at Google.com have made it possible for me to visit The Tate and the National Museum and lots and lots of other places.

So, at least this first time, vote for them. And then you will have to identify a picture of an animal for your vote to count.

And this is where it gets a bit tricky. They have some nice animal pictures. But they want REALLY SIMPLE answers. For example...a picture of a DOG is just that. DOG. Not, German Shepherd, or Wire Fox Terrier or...well, you get it, right? So also, a picture of a CAT is not to be called a kitteh or evil personified.

We think with your help we may be able to bump that Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue place back up to first place in West Virginia.

Mackie is HOME!

Mackie got to go HOME today!

His mom and dad picked him up after 4:00 this afternoon EST

and except for a zipper, a cone, and special instructions on

diet and activity, things are back to "normal' at his house.

Just got the call that Mackie is out of surgery! The doctor said he is doing okay. His intestine was a bit more comprimised than he had hoped, but he pulled out a baby sock from him so i can put the fear of a mass or tumor aside. The doc said he did release a lot of gas and fluid from his belly, some of which came out of his mouth--he was intebated but there is a risk of pneumonia because of it and of course the regualr infection risk, but he did well in surgery and is in recovery now!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS!!.

My brother from another mother Mackie is not feeling well, and is spending the night at the vet's place.

He ate the foot from a stuffie, and has not been feeling well since that time. His Mom and Dad took him to the VET and they have not found anything on the x-ray machine thingy.

He was one of my first friends in blogland and I am very worried about him.

Please cross paws for him and his pawrents and family that he is much better tomorrow and can come home soon.

It is I again, Eartha Kitteh.

I have been living with this lady E. Rabbit for about five months now, and even if she thinks this dog named Gus is my uncle, and even though she has some weird habits like making me poop in a box and then taking my poop out of the box and putting it in little bags and then putting the bags in the trash, it is a pretty good set up.

So recently she had a three day weekend. I am not entirely fond of three day weekends because they cut into my alone time. I mean, it is nice to have her around and all, but I am used to having eight or more hours a day to myself. Also, we do not always have compatible ideas about how to spend the time. She thinks four a.m. is for sleeping and four p.m. is for playing; I happen to think the reverse is true.

But we did manage to find a few times we could agree were good for playing, and when we did, she taught me a game called "Fetch." Perhaps you dogs have heard of this game? One player throws a thing and the other runs to get it and brings it back.

I have to say, I am much better at this game than she is. When she throws one of my toys across the room or to the other side of thee couch, I run and get it and bring it back right away. But when I throw one of my toys under the couch or under the dresser, sometimes it takes her DAYS to fetch it, even though I tell her "fetch! FETCH!" with both verbal and telepathic commands. And sometimes she uses a broom handle to fetch them out with, which I consider cheating.

But anyway, she told a friend of hers that I could play fetch. And that friend said "hahahaha that's silly. Only dogs can play fetch."

????

Is she KIDDING? Does she really think there are things dogs can do that I, Eartha Kitteh, cannot?

See? There is your proof, world and doggies and people. I, Eartha Kitteh, am a CHAMPION of fetch.

My new goal is to learn more things that people think only dogs can do. I can already fetch and chase my own tail. Soon I will have all the skills that dogs have, and then I will be able to ~~take over the world~~ improve dog/kitteh relations for generations to come.

I know all y'all have met my muzzer.

And I am pretty sure that I have been most open and forthcoming about her quirks and oddities.

Like....she reads a lot.

And....she eats a lot.

And....she is short.

And...she is a sucker for the sweet puppy look I give her.

But we have had so many people ask why we have been absent from our blog, and others who have politely inquired to see if everything is OK, so I thought I should tell you what is going on around here.

NOT MUCH!

Except, as part of "settling in" to our home in Virginnyah, we have all had to find new Dogtors.

Me and Teka have a new Dogtor. He is just about 8 blocks from our house, and I like him fine, even if he does do unspeakable things to my rear end.
And Muzzer and Dad have a new Dogtor too.

They seem to like him a lot, and he has changed some of Muzzer's meddy cations - and he also told her that her thyroid is not acting the way it

should, and he suggested that it might be that she caught it from me!

I am not sure I like him much at all!

Anyway...for all the time I have known her, muzzer has been a big fan of PEPSI! In fact, she is kind of addicted. Ya know.

But the Dogtor also told her that if she wants to lose some pounds, she might need to give

up the Pepsi Real and switch to a di ette soda.

So muzzer thought about all

the people she knows who drink the di ette stuff, and she remembered that Mumsie and a few others drink this Coke Zero stuff.

And so she has switched! And I don't like it.

She is crabby, she is short tempered, and she says I smell!

Plus, she has "too much to do" and never can help me with my blogging.

So, I am asking all my friends if they think this stuff could be affecting her "mentals", as Mango calls them. I think I must hide all her supply until I can research this a bit more.

Because while I am accustomed to her being short tempered and crabby, this is the first time she has mentioned that she thinks I smell.

We have been having a wonderful time in London!

Marks and Co. is no longer in business. She loved the book when she was an "itty bitty" and allows as how the movie of the same name was a "reasonable effort" to capture the spirit of the story.

Just wanted to fill you in on what

we are doing today!

We are meeting Eric the Square at

Sloane's Square, in the center of London.

Beautiful fountains, colorful people, a great

pub called "The Green Man" where Eric and I will

tip a few pints with our pals, and perhaps

play a quick game of darts.

Meanwhile, the ladies on the trip are going to:

HARROD'S!

Where I am sure they will set new trends

and make serious inroads on their

plastic cards.

We will join them for a quick trip to the

pet area of Harrod's, which muzzer assures

me I will enjoy. Do not, however, expect to see

me in that silly green coat.

Unless Miss Asta requests it, of course.

Pawsonally, I am saving my plastic points for

The Cheese Aisle

which is my very most favoritest place in Lunnon.

I guess it is a good thing we are flying back in an

open aire plane, because some of those cheeses

are pretty stinky. Especially my favorite Stiltons.

So, after not too very much sleep at our slumber pawty last night, we are heading across the big pee to meet up with Eric the Square in Lunnon....and it will be pubs, pawty and shopping until it is time to head back home.

New Year's eve

Just after I left St. Loulis, this terrible tornado hit

near Interstate 40 and Lindbergh Blvd.

I feel terrible about the people hurt and the

damage to buildings. I left Teka behind to help

the firemen and headed toward New Yawk City.

As you may have seen in my Sweet Friend Asta's Bloggy, we

had a wonderful ride through Central park, and we had just

gone back to her apartment to watch the fireworks over the river.

We were sharing another Pawtini in front

of her windows, when suddenly we spied a

plane flying straight toward us!

It is Butcho! And all our pals.

And they are buzzing Times Square.

Oh my.

You know, there are reasons

that the Air Traffic Controller folks are

touchy about the air space over NY City!

I was very nervous. I was hoping that Butcho

did not get into trouble.

We heard on TV that they scrambled the Blue Angels

Flying Team and made the purple plane land at La Guardia.

Asta and I were soooo anxious about our pals. We held paws and

told each other to be very brave. We heard lots of sirens and stuff and

then the door man called to say that the police were in the lobby of Asta's

building with a bunch of dogs in tow!

So we went down in the elevator and signed my dad's

name to a lot of papers saying that he would be responsible

for any further disturbances.

Well, that was the end of the romantic evening I had planned.

Instead we are having a slumber pawty with lots of our friendses., and

tomorrow we will finish the rest of the surprise for Miss Asta.

I Am the Most Fortunate of Dogs!

I am spiffing up the Gussiemobile for a bri ef trip to New York City!

I will be spending New Year's Eve on the town with the bootiful Miss Asta and her Mommi and Daddi, and then flying via Aire Butcho across the big pee to visit with Eric the Square and a few of our other friends and to spend a day on the town in Lunnon.

You are welcome to join us for the trip across the pee, but you must make your own arrangements for New Year's Eve, because I am a most oldfashioned type of guy, I don't kiss and tell, so I certainly don't kiss with an audience.

Boxing Day! A Memorial Reprise

This is a total reprise, in honor of our Pal Wally, who now greets travellers at the Bridge.

With apologies to Edgrrr....Wally would've loved you if he had known ya!

December 26th is known as Boxing Day, but also as the Feast of St. Stephen. The English Carol, Good King Wencelas tells us the story of St. Wenceslas and his page.

We have taken liberties with the lyrics here to honor our pal Wally the Corgador, a saint among dogs and benevolent ruler of his pack.

We pause in the midst of our Italian Christmas feast, spanning two generations, two days, and at least two pounds, to offer our friends a Merry Christmas in Italian!

The hoomans are being good about sharing, so last night we had our share of the cod and one shrimp- each from the cioppino, and this morning we had a piece of pannetone made like French toast and decorated like Italian Flags although our pieces did not have quite enough of the red and green sugar sprinkles to suit my taste.

Tonite we have a pork roast that muzzer is stuffing with spinach and provolone, mashed Yukon potatoes with lots (and lots) of garlics, and a dish that has two of my favorites in it: Broccolini and Burratta cheese! mmmmm and Pine Nuts! And my sissie made this torte that has Meyer Lemon and dark chocolate layers. But we don't think we will get anything of that, except maybe the crust.

We hope you enjoyed the Italian Carols, and We will see you tomorrow with our favorite tune for Boxing Day.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

A Breakthrough!

Well, we had a big breakthrough here today, so I will take a minute and tell you about it, then give you over to the big guy!

Me and Gussie have been reluctant to go out on walkies unless someone picks us up and carries us beyond the fence line. Ya know? This makes is difficult when there is one hooman doing walkies, like now, when Dad is off visiting Grandpa in Azrizona.

Every time we go out (5 or 6 times a day, cause I'm a diva) Muzzer puts us in the car, drives out of the driveway down the alley and around the corner, and we go walkabout.

Reverse on return.

But we have been working on WALKING out through the front gate! Muzzer has been bribing us. With treats. And today, we did it! And we came back through it to get in the front door! And muzzer was so happy, we got a slice of ham each.

Enough of my triumphs.
