Very busy day today.
Had to go and get grooooomed!
Now I am white and fluffy, and waiting.
My Sissy E.Beth is coming to visit.
She is coming from Phoenix, and we are
gonna have Fun! Fun! Fun!
What do you think?

Am I fluffy enough for company?

A Contest! A Contest!

I just got an e-mail from my pals at Three Dog Bakery !

They have a contest that started March 3 - and to enter, you have to tell them what dogs would do if they had opposable thumbs.  Like, never have to depend on Hoomans to post blog entries or vote for their favorite shelters!

Prizes are treats from Three Dog, one of my favorite places to go for treats!

Go on over and read about it, and don't forget (ahem, ahem) to vote in the Shelter Challenge so the Bumpass Hounds don't have to give up their treat money.

Me and Teka apologize for not having pictures to post, but since muzzer abandoned us and went to St. Loulis, we have been sneaking into the vet's offices at night to post.  And without thumbs, we are struggling just to get the text part done.

Vote Early, Vote Often!

Sheesh...hoomans.

The muzzer left for St. Loulis this morning without posting to remind you about the shelter challenge.

Please see the post from yesterday for information on where to vote, and remember...they count your vote by the computer ID, which means if you have more than one computer, you can vote on all of them.

Or, you can go to the library nearest and dearest to you and use as many of the "public" computers there as you have time to wait for...just be sure to sign all the way out before you leave each machine.....

I will try to post earlier tomorrow so you don't miss a day.

Please Vote

The Animal Rescue Site has another Shelter Challenge happening.

Because the Bumpass Dad is "on travel" this week, we have agreed to harass you on behalf of
Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue.

So, please go to http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces;jsessionid=36266953D4638CDF725299EAA18F99DB.ctg-b

And vote for AHGRR.

All you really need to know is that AHGRR is in West Virginia.  Fill in the blanks when the page opens, scroll on down to "state" and enter WV.  Press Enter, and the site will pull up WV shelters.  AHGRR is number two (we think) on the list.  Click on it, your vote will fill itself out, you press VOTE toward the bottom of the box, and it will take you to one more page, where you will be asked to confirm your vote by entering the type of animal you see in the picture.  Then you press Confirm Vote and you are done for the day.

Do not be dumb like my muzzer!  The site does not recognize "nellyphant" or "pussy tat."  Or "Goggie!"
You must give the correct generic name - like fish, elephant, dog or cat.  And you must spell it correctly.  But the site will explain the rest.

We hope you will help us do this until BumpassDad gets back.  If you read about this shelter, you will understand how the Bumpass' became so involved.

Of course, if you are already voting for a shelter, or if you have a favorite of your own, we wouldn't want you to feel bad.

Teka Toy Here!
Vote for the goldens, or I will send cousin vinnie after ya.

People are Talking!

Gussie's friend, Miss Khyra sent him a link to this absolutely scurrilous blog posting this morning:
Since then, his e-mail has gone postal with other "friends" sending him the same information.
Muzzer tells me it is on Facebook and the WFT group site too.
Now, I ask you....Do you see any malice in this face?

Don't answer that, but if you want to see the blog with the information in it....
But you and I KNOW that it is no relative of mine!

We Been Out of Touch

This blog has been out of commission
Due to the fact that this is what Muzzer
Has been looking like for the past 3 days.
(oh, except muzzer is brown hair with gray)
We've missed so much - good and bad.
And if we have left comments, we only
Hope that they are up to our usual standards
Of erudition and humor.
She has been upright today for a whole four hours.
Maybe we can inspire her to do better tomorrow.
Until then, you have our love and support
And if you come to Mayemphis, me and Dad
will meet you on Beale St. until we know
She is not contagious.

A Package for ME!

Me and Teka were very excited yesterday!
See this Box?
My friend CeCe brought it with the mails.
It is a big box...see the scale?
Muzzer helped us open it.
Asta and her Mommi Sent It!

Inside were these cool Charley Bear Treats.
They taste like CHEESE, not Liver (which I also enjoy.)
And see the magic orange ball in the corner....oooooh, I am excited.

Here is a not so good picture of the ball.
And here is a picture of Teka in a cute little red and black dress.

It is a bit tight across the (ahem) bust, but she says Swede Willy Yum
will like it lots. It has velcro closings.

Some stuffs for muzzer came in this bag.
I think these are the Muzzer Equivalent of Charley Bears...
but she is really happy.
All progress on this project STOPPED while she brewed a pot of tea
and ate a couple of these.
I have the orange ball in my mouth here, and I am squeaking it
To Death.
If you want to watch the process, you can check out the video below.
But muzzer recommends that you turn the volume waaay down.

Or get out the earplugs.
I want to thank all of my friends who sent special greetings and E-cards, Asta, Butchy, Archie and Aggie, and Khrya and her Mom, Mc Gillicutty, Pearl and Fred (we share a barkday) and all the others who left comments.
Oh. Muzzer made me chicken and rice for dinner, but I had to share it with Teka Toy.

Plus, it is my Barkday.

What an amazing confluence of heavenly planets to create such a fortuitous event.

Share a smile

I know we are all sad, still remembering all the friends we have lost in recent days.

But the power of a smile is almost as strong as the power of the paw. So when Muzzer showed me that my pals Joey and Mango had once again made the cut on LOL Dogs, we wanted to share their picture with ya.

funny pictures of dogs with captions
see more dog and puppy pictures

We know it doesn't make the sad go away, but hope it makes it better for a short time.

More prayers please

Special prayers tonight for Penny, Patches and Poppy and their Mom.

Their dad died this afternoon.

I like to think that Wally and their dad met up by the bridge and are crossing together.

Oops...muzzer is leaking again.

Big shoes to fill

“On the death of a friend, we should consider that the fates through confidence have devolved on us the task of a double living, that we have henceforth to fulfill the promise of our friend's life also, in our own, to the world.”

Where is Teka

Gussie Here!

A bit ago, the muzzer came to me and said

"Where is Teka? I cannot find her!"

And I said: "huh?"

But I am a good dog, and I helped her look.

Now, muzzer is always bringing stuff home
to help us organize.

And the most recent
um...acquisiton was a box thingy from
Target to keep the "dog towels" in. We
have one in the kitchen, and a basket
thing in the living room.

So, me and muzzer went looking

And here is where we found her!

" Relaxing" in the box

On top of the towels

Right in the sunshine in the kitchen.

Look !What Me and Butchy Did

Yesterday I was very bored.
Then I got an email from Butchy and the catses.
They invited me to come and watch the super bowl
at their house in IOWAY!

Muzzer said it would be OK,
So Butchy came and picked me up
In his little Yellow Plane.

When we got there, this is what I saw:

And I was so jealous, that I kept running in and out
Just to romp and roll in the white stuff.
Mama L. was laughing at me!
Finally she said:
"Gussie if you like this stuff so much,
why don't you just take it home with you."

So me and Butchy put our Terrier heads together
And when the game was over, we went out and put
a long tow line on the little yellow plane.

Then we found a fat little snow cloud
And towed it SOUTH to Mayemphis.
Where we used the tow line to tether it to my house.

And look what I saw when I got up this morning!

We went for walkies, and here are some Snow Scenes from Mayemphis!

Here is Teka Toy going back up the steps. She was glad to come inside and get dried off.
And here is a picture of Dad's hat, which shows how much it snowed while we were walking.

It won't last...but it is lovely while we have it.

Please Put Millie on the Power of the Paw List

This is our friend, Miss Millie
when her name was still Maxine.

Now, she lives with Steve and Sue,
who have known the pawrents
FOREVER!
She came to live with them from a place called
Right here in Mayemphis.

Here is why she needs the power of the paw.

When she came to live with her furever family
last spring, she was tested for heartworm.
Her test showed she was negative.
That was early in the spring of 2009.

This week, Millie went for her annual checkup.
And when the vet checked for those nasty old heartworms
Millie's test came back POSITIVE!
Even though she has gotten her Heartworm Meds
every month since she was adopted.

But the vet said it could be because some little
heartworm larvae were already living in Millie.

So, now Millie has to get treated for heartworms.

And we all know that is no fun, and carries some risk
for the dog, too.

Millie is a strong dog.
She has a great batch of hoomans rooting for her.
And of course, Me and Teka are sending her
lots of terrier vibes and healing zen.

But we are not taking any chances.
So we are calling on the power of the Paw, please.
And appreciate any help you can spare.

<>

Here is a more recent picture of Millie and her Mom.

And you can read more about Millie here.

Just so you know she has landed with a really great family.

So, what am I, Goody Four Shoes?

Some of my pals have remarked that they are surprised that I would be a bad dog.

Well, ya gotta know that I had help!

Here is what I pawed to Khyra this morning.

"Me and Teka have both been BAD! We have started arguing and pushing and fighting when muzzer opens the treat jar. Yesterday, muzzer tried to separate us by pulling us apart, but Teka would not let go of my ear, and muzzer got all upset because I was bleeding and stuff. Sheesh. What a girlie girl.

Anyway...the treat jar (a favorite of mine, as you can tell) has been banished! So yesterday when muzzer left us to go do her volunteer stuff, someone opened three(!) of the five cabinet doors we can reach. The first door was the hardest, and it got scratched up some.

This is turrible. We did not find the treat jar, muzzer is mad at us (and I am innocent!), and they are looking for a doggie behaviour person to come and "consult." And the monies are coming out of our treat fund!"

Can any dog or hooman tell me what to do about this? Would anyone like to be my persoanl behaviourist and tell Muzzer that we are "normal" terriers? I could pay a little bit up front and more when I get my treat monies back.

OH YEAH...and today I had to go to the groomers, and when I came home, did I get a meatball like Ozzy did? Nah. Just kibble.

Maybe I should do something really bad, just so she finds out the difference!

My Pawrents are REALLY OLD.

Every year, we have very similar remarks around the dinner table.

This Guy here died in 1959. Somewhere near Clear Lake Ioway, which is somewhere near Mutton Hollow and my pal Butchy. And the catses.

Anyway..this is a (slightly) newer song about this Buddy Holly Fellow. It is pretty long, because it is the concert version. But if ya read the lyrics, it is a pretty long song anyway.

I hope some of you enjoy this. I am doing this under Durrrresss...because I have been a BAD DOG and muzzer has taken over my blog.

A long long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

{Refrain}

So, bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Verse 2
Did you write the Book of Love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Do you believe in rock n' roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm & blues
I was a lonely, teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died
I started singin'

{Refrain}

Verse 3
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the Jester sang for the King and Queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the King was looking down
The Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin'

{Refrain}

Verse 4
Helter Skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the Jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the Sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died
We started singing

{Refrain}

Verse 5
Oh, and there we were, all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack, be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devils only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing

{Refrain}

Verse 6
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singin'

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die

They were singin'
Bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die

30 January 2010

We were Cheated!

Sigh....we are not happy with our snowstorm.

We want to return it as soon as possible so we can shop for a replacement.

The snow we showed ya yesterday. That was it.

Oh, yeah. There is about 3/4 of an inch of snizzle on top of it. And walkies were more of an adventure this morning than they were last night.

But this is not something we can play in. Ummm...unless you call sliding down the ice into the back yard "playing."

Me and Teka are bummed.

We hope your weather is more fun than ours turned out to be.

29 January 2010

walkies....5:30 pm

She who must be obeyed is back from Pa Duke Her
So off we go into the snizzle for walkies

Look at the poor pansies.
They were fooled by the nice weather we've had
and had their little faces turning toward the sun.
Muzzer told me they might be OK.
Pansies are resiliant.

Hmmm....no one has been here since the snow started

Guess I will christen this layer

Here we are...home at last

Reminds me of a song I once knew

Some folks like the summertime,
When they can stroll about.
Strolling through the meadow green,
It’s pleasure there no doubt,
But give me the wintertime--
The snow is on the ground--
For I found her when the snow was on the ground.

Chorus: I traced her little footprints in the snow;
I traced her little footprints in the snow.
‘Member the day that Nellie lost her way,
For I found her when the snow was on the ground.

Went one night to see her;
It was a big round moon.
Her mother said she stepped out,
Would be returning soon.
I traced her little footprints,
And I found ‘em in the snow.
Found her when the snow was on the ground.

(Chorus)

Now she’s up in Heaven;
She’s with the angel band.
Someday I’ll go and see her
In that happy land.
Every time the snow falls,
It brings back memories,
For I found her when the snow was on the ground.

(Chorus)

Drying our sweaters and coats

Drying the big pair of Bean Boots

Fire is waiting and we are in for the night.

4:40 pm update

We have had sleety rain most of the time since my last post. If you think I am going out in that...you are crazy!

What?! Walkies?! Let's go...
