The Day the Music Died

Well it was fifty years ago today
That the music would no longer play
They were comin' into their own style
And we thought they'd be with us a while
So we'd like to introduce to you......

To paraphrase another great group.

see, I told ya the parents were aged.

Dad sez he remembers it well, he was in 7th grade, first year of junior high. He had LaBamba on a 45, he was a big Dion and the Belmonts fan and he had a lot of their 45s. His big sister had a lot of Buddy Holly 45s; neither dad or his sister was into The Big Bopper. Dad sez that it was front page news in the Boston Globe, whatever that is.

Waylon Jennings, one of Buddy Holly's backup musicians, gave his seat up to J. P. Richardson, who was running a fever and had trouble fitting his stocky frame comfortably into the bus seats.

When Holly learned that Jennings wasn't going to fly, he said, "Well, I hope your old bus freezes up." Jennings responded, "Well, I hope your plane crashes." This friendly banter of friends would haunt Jennings for years.

They really knew how to make music. That is what the crazy old bat says, anyway.

makes me want to get some glasses and start making my own music. Our gramps loves all that music from then and he loves to sing it to us.

Gussie!

My girl is not quite old enough to have listened to them when they were all alive, but she eventually discovered Buddy Holly & Richie when she was in high school. It seems so sad that they died when they were just starting their lives. Thanks for reminding us (that Muzzer & your dad are old farts)!

Goober love,
Stanley

NOW I know who My Girl and My Boy reminded me of the other day when they put on those 3D glasses. It was that Buddy Holly look!

We miss him.
