I can't believe this

Jake and Just Harry (www. http://barkalotboyz.blogspot.com/ ) recommended that I consider offering "incentives" to doggies who are willing to vote for me on the DWB Awesome Blog Award Contest!

And you know....that didn't seem like such a bad idea, which was why I posted some stuff about food in St. Louis last night. Sort of a subliminal "incentive" you might say.

And then today, they noted that I am still trailing. They said "hey Gussie, the Toasted Ravioli sounded good, but maybe you should offer White Castle as an added treat!"

And ya know...I really thought about it! Me, smarter than the average dog, Gus Dagger w.f.t., connoisseur of food and drink, bon vivant, man about town. I actually considered endorsing White Castle as a ploy to get more votes.

Now, first I have to 'splain some things to people who don't know much about St. Loulis. My parents have a "mixed marriage" by St. Loulis standards: different high schools, different religions, lots of different things about this couple! But most important....Muzzer likes White Castle and Dad likes Steak n Shake. My sister E.Rabbit and E.Beth, who know who signs the checks in this family, are both Steak n Shake people. Me, I have never tasted a White Castle because Dad goes ballistic when muzzer talks about getting me one! And I feel I must agree...those little patties are square, they have lots of holes in them before they cook, they smell like onions. I ask...is this a hamburger or what?

Say nothing about "mystery meat" my friends. If you didn't raise it or hunt it yourself, in today's world of food and drink...it is ALL mystery meat. There is just something about a square patty with holes that doesn't work for this terrier.

So, however much I would like to win this contest, and however deserving I might be...I will not compromise my family values. I will remain true to Steak n Shake...and close with this photo of a family heirloom. The Steak n Shake hat that my sister E. Rabbit got for me!

(yes, yes, muzzer tried to get me to put it on, but it seemed almost like a sacrilege!)

Two weeks, Two weeks, Two weeks, Two weeks!

OK, I know I am getting pretty boring about this, but it is just two weeks until we leave for St. Loulis.

Oh, you already know that? You guys out there are so smart. I am constantly amazed at how much you know about me and my family. Sometimes you know things as soon as I do. You must have a great internal gossip source. I know....

It's Teka, right? She is always telling you stuff about me and muzzer, right? And all of dad's secrets, huh?

No.

Oh.

Is it E.Rabbit who tells you all this stuff? She has a blog too. But I am not s'posed to tell anyone about it. 'Cause E.Rabbit says stuff that muzzer is not 'sposed to read. But I get to read it. 'Cause I am her bruzzer and not easily shocked. Anyway, I guess you all read E.Rabbit's blog too, huh?

No.

Oh.

Well, Dad doesn't talk much, and I am pretty sure he doesn't hardly even read any blogs, much less post stuff about the family on one. So that leaves us with.......

Oh No. You are finding out all this stuff from reading MY blog! Ooooo. I am such a motormouth. And E.Rabbit says I talk too much and don't put enough doggy pix.

I guess I will have to be more discrete about what I tell you all......Loose lips sink slips and all that. Whatever that means.

Ok, so, barring all my unclever detecting, it really is still just two weeks until we leave for St. Loulis. And I am pretty excited about this. Cause Teka is not coming. Oh, yeah. You already know that too, right?

Tag, we are it!

Hi all...hope you are having a wonderful Memorial Day, where ever you may be.

Me 'n Teka have volunteered for this tag thing. We are each going to tell you some things you might like to know but would never guess about us. At the end, we are supposed to tag someone else. But we are pretty sure everyone has done this one. So, if you haven't, you can volunteer like we did. We think this is fun, and we have found out lots of stuff about our friends.

Being the consummate gentleman, I have agreed to let Teka take the first turn.

Well, here I am, guest ghosting again for Gussie. I'm alliterative. Bet you wouldn't have guessed that one!

Here we go.....
1. I am not named after the fellows at TKE, however fine they may be. I am named Teka because when I was tiny, I would've fit in a teacup.
2. I am a little over a year old, and this is my third family! First I belonged to a friend of E.Beth's. Then they gave me to E.Beth, and I lived with her for a while here in my house. Then Gussie and muzzer and Dad came home, and E.Beth went to live in an apartment. I stayed with her for a while there, but as I was not "legal" in her lease, I have moved back here temporarily. But, there are worse places I could have ended up, even with Gussie in my face all day!
3. Muzzer thinks I steal her bras because I don't like her. Au Contraire. I snatch them because I want to wear little white lacy caps on my head! To that end, I chew the straps off as quickly as I can. If only she understood my mission, we could save her a lot of money.
4. I really, really like Gussie. But I like his friend Travis better, and I would like to get to know Joe Stain's brother Tanner too! And maybe Butchy, and maybe Marvin, who writes beautiful poetry.....and, and, and.....
5. I would much prefer to sleep late in the mornings, but I know that if I don't get her out of bed and on the road, muzzer will never get around to walkies. So, I sacrifice for her sake and get her out of bed by 5:15 am each day. After all, I can take a nap most any time during the day....
6. The food here is pretty good, but I would like eggs and bacon for breakfast. And hot chocolate please. With whipped cream.
7. This summer, E.Beth and I are house sitting here while Gussie goes on vacation. I plan to paint my room a lovely, vibrant red. Don't tell. Muzzer has high blood pressure anyway.
AND NOW....HEEEEERE'S GUSSIE
1. I like stuffies, I just don't know how to play with them. So they have short and bloody lives around me.
2. I let Teka boss me around because she has had such a hard life. Can you imagine having that many families before you are one year old. She must've been hard on everybody's bra straps, not just muzzer's
3. I really love frozen vegetables. But exspecially green beans. Yummy.
4. I can't swim
5. I really like going to the groomer. But if muzzer knew, she would make me pay for it out of my allowance. So don't tell her, OK?
6. Dad and I don't really spend all day in bed. But muzzer takes a lot of pictures of us there.
7. I am really looking forward to our road trip this summer. I will have muzzer and dad to myself for more than a month. And I may get to meet Miss Snickers and Mr. Butchy. And my friends Steve and Sue may come and see me in St. Loulus, and I get to visit Aunt Re and Uncle Ray again!
CHEERS ALL!

Two (2) Due, Dos, count 'm 2

I've been tagged for two challenges today, and it isn't even 11:00 am here!

Now, I'm quite worried that I will confuse them, and put the wrong kind of stupid picture up under the right challenge. OK... So I'm gonna list each challenge, and then put the pictures up right behind them.
Faya, the Swiss-dale, challenged me (in English, so no excuses) to show the worst picture of me.

Well, I'll tell you, I hardly ever take a bad picture. But here are two that I wish muzzer had deleted from the disk! Me, in my travel torture unitMy fuzzy rear end.

And Asta (up over) challenged me to put up a picture of me wearing something different and/or unusual. Not hard. Muzzer has this penchant for dressing me funny! And I get into a few myself, for that matter
Me, wearing a St. Patty's day bandana and my mardi gras beads
Me, with bright pink foot.Me, in my first sweater.
Me, in yellow boot to keep pink foot dry. (see above)
Me, in pink survivor hat from the breast cancer walk, with pink beads
Me, in Cardinal Cap on Big Bed
Me, in my Cardinal Bandana. Go Big Red!
Me, in my working clothes

Me, with my head in hamburger bag.

Now, I have to think of three other people to tag. I pick Butchy/Snickers and Joe Stains for the clothing challenge. And Teka, Doofus and Romeo for the bad picture. Watch your e-mails.

Sartorial Elegance

Hello

It is Monday, and Monday is one of the days that I, Gus Dagger w.f.t. go to the store to help my muzzer.

Muzzer and I have had many discussions about appropriate behavior in the store. I must not jump. I must not give kisses without permission. I must not beg (yeah, right.) I must greet every customer whenever possible. No peeing in the store, no pooping in the store.

We have also discussed appropriate attire. I, Gussie have felt for some time that my wardrobe of neckerchiefs does not reflect the elegance and savoir-faire of my breed. And it does not shed a totally positive light on the store.

After all, Butchy wears the clothing his mom designs and makes. He has jumpers and shirts, even Hawaiian shirts, and when he wears a neckerchief. It is DIGNIFIED. Not goofy like the ones that muzzzer brings home.

So last week on her day off muzzer went waaaay into the back of Dad's closet and she found me some lovely foulard bow ties. She said Dad went through a "bow tie period" and these have not seen the light of day since then. Muzzer said maybe I am more of a bow tie kind of guy than dad is, and anyway, she thought it would make me handsome!

So today we decided to try out my new wardrobe. Muzzer had a bit of difficulty remembering how to tie one of these, but it seemed quite simple to me. All you really have to do is sit still!

Anyway, I think it turned out quite well.

We tried turning it several different ways. Under my chin, but no one could really see it that well. It might work well for humans, but not for terriers.

Then we pulled it all the way around to the back, like it shows in this picture. I thought that was better, but not entirely satisfactory. For example, you don't really get the full effect unless I am walking away from you, or laying at your feet.

We pulled it under one ear, and then the other. Muzzer and I agreed that this is the most flattering, and quite practical. Here is a profile view from my better side. I think it is quite dashing!

Finally, here is a view of me at the front door of the store. I am diligently doing my job as greeter, and enjoying the sunshine. The opinion of our customers today was unanimous. Everyone had a very positive opinion of my new "look!" Of course, I was on my most exemplary behavior, scored several snausages and a jumbone from one of my fans. Work is hard, but there are a number of rewards and perks.

Teka and I are excited about dinner. We are having salmon and asparagus! Muzzer fixed a special meal for Teka's dinner since tomorrow is her big day! And she does not get any food after 7:30 pm tonight. Bummer. Guess it is a good thing Gus went to work today and had his share of snacks.

Updates tomorrow as soon as I am able. Regards to all. Must go decide which tie I am wearing on Wednesday!

ps: To E.Rabbit and Dad. I am not giving up my St. Louis Cardinal neckerchief. It is still my favorite!
