Make way for: Ducks In St. Loulis

HAH!  We did it.

We ganged up and made the muzzer post.

Helped of course, by the fact that she leads a life of leisure on the road, and we pulled the guilt card.

Anyway.....We are in St. Loulis visiting out Aunt Marie.  She lives in a big house with lots of people.

Kind of like a dormitory at Dad's University, except:

  • There are not as many computers
  • The televisions are louder
  • The music here is largely Gershwin, Goodman and Golden Oldies
  • The folks are more willing to give us treats.
Anyway...we digress.

We see them.  We see them ducklings!
She and her "much younger" friend Miss Lorraine like to sit on the patio in Aunt Marie's building and work on their sun tans.  This time of year there is almost always a Mama Duck, who discovered the patio a few years ago and comes here to have her babies.   This is the second year we have been visiting when the ducks are in residence.  We have not been allowed to get near them!

However, muzzer took some pictures of us behind the door and the ducks, Aunt Marie and Miss Lorraine on the patio.  Enjoy!

Make way for Ducklings!
Wiggle waggle Wiggle Waggle all in a row

Aunt Marie (in the hat)  is telling a joke.  Miss Lorraine is listening so she does not miss the punch line!

Oh...I bet that was a good one!

Better than we thought

It started out raining and dreary

And me and Teka thought we might be spending the day
cooped up in the car or in the room
But the humans got moving.
And I made sure Muzzer did not drown in the
shower thingy.
Then I led my pack on another great
adventure.
Today we went to Woods Creek Park
and had a great time, despite a bit of drizzle.

This trail is 2 miles long, and winds
behind VMI and Washington and Lee Unversity
and then you can cross at this pretty spot
And go back along the opposite side.
Whew...we were pretty tired.
But Teka still had enought energy to play

Teka the Intrepid takes a dip in the creek.
It was too cold, so I took a pass.

We have had a wonderful day.
Wish y'all could be with us.

More tomorrow.

Retrospective

All y'all know that my Dad is a big fan
of the St. Louis Cardinals.

But did you know that my sissie E.Rabbit is too?
(So is E.Beth, but she is not as Rabid as the Rabbit)

As you can see above...he began indoctrinating
E.Rabbit very early.  That picture was taken at
a game in St. Loulis in 1982.
Muzzer was prolly at the concession stand at the time,
or maybe she just skipped the game.)

Anyway...

Here they are looking pretty happy at
the game last night, where the STL Cardinals
beat the Washington Redskins in Dee See.

They may have been the only happy folk in the
stadium.

Dad sounded a bit sleepy this morning when he
called us, but we know he is still a happy camper.

The Wonderful Thing about Mango

The Wonderful Thing about Mango
Is he was a  wonderful thing
His top was made out of rubber
His bottom was made out of springs
Think bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Mango
Is He's the only one

The wonderful thing about Mango
Is he was a wonderful chap!
Just  loaded with vim and with vigor
He'd love to leap in your laps
Think bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Mango
Is He's the only one
Oh he was a wonderful fellah.
And he was just awfully sweet.
Everyone else is jealous,
And that's why I repeat...

The wonderful thing about Mango
Is not just relentlessly huge
Cause there are a lot of big doggies
But he is the one we would choose
Think bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Mango
Is He's the only one

Now Mango would show you his dancing
He truly was light on his feet
And while he was out there prancing
Well, he looked a marvelous treat.

Accompanied by his Momma
With Dexter there keeping the beat
He captured the heart of  all blogland
And that is why we repeat:
The wonderful thing about Mango
Is he was a  wonderful thing
He managed to leave us all smiling
Remembering how he would sing
Think bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!
But the most wonderful thing about Mango
Is He's the only one

Yes Heeeeee's the only one.

With Thanks to Mango Momma for the portrait and to AA Milne for the inspiration.

I am an IMPAWSIBLE pet

 This is Cody.
He is the official greeter at Impawsible Pups.
He belongs to Miss Valerie, and he helped her
when she was training me and Teka.
These are some of the toys and crate pads they sell
at their new place.  I have my eye on the stuffies
but muzzer says I will never get my teef in one.
These are more my style anyway.
Tough, terrier toys.
Here is my profile after my grooming
And here I am saying hello ! to the treat
muzzer brought along.
I have trained her well.

now I am going to take a nap.

gussmeister

Haaaaaaalp!!!!!

Muzzer has dropped me off here for
a grooming!

OMD.....I don't look that bad.
I think she seriously has curl envy.

Just stuff

It has been kind of boring around here.
We did have one adventure last week.
We went to do a home visit for Wirey Rescue.
The lady liked me and I liked the lady.
We gave her, her house and her hubby a thumbs up.
They need help with those pesky sqrrrls around there!

Me and Teka were so happy on the way home we played a bit
of bitey face!  This made the muzzer crazy because she wants
us to stay in our assigned seats and be nice to one another
while she is driving on the hiway.

Too bad.
So sad.
Not gonna happen
Fall is coming soon and we are soooooooo happy!
Morning walkies are great!
Hope it is cooling off (or warming up for
y'all in that other hemisphere thing)
wherever you are.

Not much, but keeping in touch.

New pooter

Me and Teka got Really Tired of listening
To the Muzzer complain about her computer.

So we took our saved up allowances
(all of hers and some of mine)
And we went to the pooter store
and picked one out for her!

This is the one we got her.
Teka says it is pretty.
And I like it because it only weighs five pounds!

This is what the new screen looks like!

And this is Teka telling the muzzer that she had
best start doing a better job of posting!

sincerely

Corgis...bah humbug!

Y'all should know first of all that no corgis were harmed in
the production of this blog entry.

Last week my dad had a colleague come to town to deliver a
paper at a kind of summer colloquium.

This is the first time we have met this colleague, but he seemed
like a nice kind of guy.  Then we smelled his shoes and socks!

Turns out he has two corgis.
TWO!
Their names are Ricky and Kirby.

And from the picture below, they are kind of OK.

See.   Don't they look harmless?
And even maybe a little cute?
Oh, maybe even a little too angelic for words.

Yeah.  We thought so too.

Then Muzzer broke out the PetSmart bag.
And she had two toys for these guys.

One for each of them.

And as if that was not bad enough,
the pictures below came in Dad's email
with a thank you note for the toys.
 Look at this!

What self respecting dog would be this
quiet and good when confronted by a toy
that Bounces and Squeaks?

You can sure tell these guys are not Terriers!

I bet they tore into them as soon as the pictures were taken!

Teka and I did not wait for any stinking pictures.
We went right for the jugular.  Or in this case,
the squeaker!

And these toys took a beating and kept on squeaking!

Muzzer had to put them up for a day to let them
dry out.  Then those sneaky squeaky toys
started squeaking again.

We would give them a thumbs up, if we
had thumbs.

Just sayin', these are pretty fine play things.

Gussie n Teka

oh, and we think Ricky and Kirby like them too.

Bon Voyage Bussie!

My great pal and inspiration
My longtime mentor and friend
Buster W. Smith
Has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I join all his pals in celebrating
his life and many loves.

I know he was met at the Bridge
by Terrier Pals and  honorary terriers.
Legion in numbers and strong in Spirit(s).

Bussie had a joie de vivre most awesome.
He will long be remembered in songs and poems,
and will live furever in the hearts of his family and friends.

The most awesome set of wheels awaited him at the Bridge
filled with beautiful female dogs,  libations and treats.

Drive carefully Bussie, I'd like to have a chance to
drive your car when I join you.

Gee, Thanks Garth

Our Pal Garth Riley passed this lovely "Sunshine Award" on to us!  We normally don't indulge, but we made the muzzer feel very most guilty because she did not bring the flashy beast on the vacation to St. Loulis, and it has been an eon and a half since we blogged.

And this is pretty simple...just a few questions to answer, so we think she is getting off pretty easy.  Right???

So, Me and Teka are both answering the questions.  At least, an edited version of Teka's answers are included, and no humans have been hurt (badly) in this exercise.

OK, so here we go....
1. What is your favorite number?
Teka: I hate numbers. Anything over four is a real challenge for me.
Gus: Two!  I have two humans, I have two sissies, and I have had two girlfriends in my whole 9 years.  Except, I only have ONE Teka Toy, and that is the way I want to keep it.

2. What is your favorite nonalcoholic beverage?
Teka: Sparkling water (pref. San Pellegrino) with a slice of lemon or orange.
Gus:   Ummmm...Any water I can slurp.  I like Beer too, but that kinda isn't non alcoholic.  Oh, and Champagne with my sweetie.

3. Facebook or Twitter?
Teka: Facebook, me and Gussie share Muzzer's ID.
Gus:  Ummm...Facebook kicked me off one time, and I never really learned about Twittering because the Muzzer is lazy.  I am an old fashioned kind of guy, I like my blog, even if it is a struggle to get stuff posted.  Oh, and I like Skype.  I think.

4. What is your passion?
Teka:  My Dad, Swede William and Brudder Ranger, and anything PINK!
Gus: My sweet Miss Asta, My Muzzer, My sissies, and my Angel Snickers.

5. What is your favorite pattern?
Teka: Pink and Orange Paisley.  Oh and diamonds.
Gus:  My clan tartan, a small, tasteful foulard print, and cheese.

6. What is your favorite day of the week?
Gus and Teka:   We love every day, and greet the sun as it comes up over the freeway with our humans on our walkies.  We love every day because it is always an adventure, and something wonderful happens every day, even if it is only breakfast and dinner!  We are dogs.  What do you expect.

7. What is your favorite flower?
Teka:   Orchids, and Roses, and dandelions.
Gus:   Ummmm...I like the ones you can eat...expecially Nasty Turtiums.

Now, we are supposed to pass this award on to Ten friends.  We hate this part.  We will just tell you that this is an easy and fun award, and if you want to do the questions, go ahead.

Thank you Garth for giving it to us!

Adventures in "the 'Hood"

Today, me and Teka decided that we would
keep our "adventure" close to home.
So,,,,,This is our house in Richmond VA.
(for earlier houses, check prior posts!)
And this is the park right across the street.
It is small, but very pretty.
 OPA
This weekend we will be right at the center
of the excitement.  The Greek Festival
takes place just about a block away
from our house.  This "hood" smells
wonderful...starting about 3:00 pm
this afternoon!
If you are coming
to the festival, and need a place to
park, we have room for two cars
(if they are friendly) in our driveway.
Let us know if you are coming.
Otherwise, we will have you towed!

We are also close enough to these places to
walk to them, even though we will not do that
today.  That is my dad's head next to the sign,
so you can see that the bottom of the sign is
about 7 ft. from the ground.
On the South side of Cary St, but "North of the James"
is a wonderful neighborhood called "Windsor Farms"
We like to walk there because it is shaded, and because
we kind of snicker when the muzzer gets excited about
a nice house or garden.  We are simple dogs and
it doesn't take much to amuse us.
This is a pillar at one of the entrances.
This is a reallly big magnolia tree.
And this is one of "those" houses that makes muzzer
so happy.
And this is me, needing a haircut.   But I can still make
muzzer smile.

All of the sidewalks in this neighborhood are
made of hand laid brick.   Most of them are
well maintained.
But some of them are not well cared for.  This is
one of the reasons muzzer grumbles until she sees
a neat house.   Bricks that are heeding nature's message
to get out of the way make her trip, then she curses, and
sometimes she falls.   To avoid this, we make her
wear really dorky shoes.  It helps a little bit.
This is another house that she likes.

 And another house!
With a truly lovely side yard and conservatory.
And a for sale sign!   Uh Oh!  Dad is in trouble fer sure,
fer sure.   Actually, we hope that you all will fall in
love with our "hood" and buy this so that we can
be your neighbors.  Mr. Rogers Reigns.
