M - 10 and counting!

Well, we thought we should let you look around and see what kind of progress muzzer is making on packing for the move! Here I am inspecting the cabinet in the study. Not much left in there. No bones or dog toys remaining.
This is a view of the corner by the window. We have piles like these in almost every room.
The Dining Room is partially packed. Muzzer is doing the easy stuff. She will wait for the professionals to pack the china and her Christmas dishes.
Here is a view of the room where dad has been stacking boxes. We haven't got a final count, but he has more at his offices.
That's what my life has been recently. Boxes, Boxes, Boxes. Wrestle with Teka. More boxes. I think I will be glad to be "on the go" again.
kisses to all

Dog Wars: Return of the JRT-i

Hi, Dog Bloggers.

Before any more of you send me any more hate mail, I thought I should clarify things.

Gus is confused. I did, in fact, tell him that I was going back to D.C. However, he wasn't paying attention to me.

What was he doing instead, you ask? Oh, just this:

I should point out that a friend of mine, who is one of Gus's biggest fans, says that he does not believe that Gus and Teka are fighting in this video. He thinks they're making out.

Regards,
E. Rabbit

03 June 2008

They've gone and done it now!

The human parents were gone for a long while yesterday. And they didn't take us!

First, they took E.Rabbit somewhere and left her! She was not with them when they dashed in and out, and I have not sniffed her since. She did not sing in the shower this morning either!

They say that she went home. NONO. This is her home. Where did they put her? I have checked all the boxes in all the rooms and sniffed the closets. She is not at HOME. So where is she? Did she go back to DeeSee? I remember her saying something about that a few days ago. But I think she would have sent me an e-mail by now. And I have checked several times, and she has not left word.

So..that is one BAD thing they did yesterday.

But the WORST thing they did yesterday was
!!!!!!!!!!!

They have gotten rid of BOTH of my Gussiemobiles. There is a stanger parked in my Garage! It does not look like either of my Gussiemobiles, even though it says its name is HONDA like my green Gussiemobile does. And it is not white like the Gussiemobile we took
to St. Loulis.

They say that it is for "THE MOVE" and that Teka and I will have more room. I guess you know what I said to that, right?

So, in one day, they managed to lose E.Rabbit and both Gussimobiles. I have to think and think to figure out what to do about this.

I will be contemplating my navel today. Oh my. I don't seem to have one. In deep thought anyway.

Dog Wars: The M Wire Strikes Back

Hello, Dog Bloggers.

Because every summer film deserves a sequel (or 5), here is another movie of Gus and Teka "playing." This one features a little less conversation and a little more action, as they tussle silently.

After Gus emerges victorious, Teka retreats to her fort to plot her awful revenge. . .

Dog Wars: A New Rope

Hi, Dog Bloggers.

At your request, here is a nother movie starring Gus and Teka. This shows the way they begin playing most afternoons*: Teka whips Gus in the face with a toy, and they rumble.

Warning: this film contains extreme close-ups of Wire Fox Terrier Butt, and may not be suitable for puppies.

*It's also the way they begin playing most mornings, evenings, and nights.

Gussie's film debut

Hi dog bloggers.

Gussie has asked me to post a short film we made of him, Teka, and their buddy Travis romping in the yard yesterday as part of their Memorial Day festivities.

It features many of Gus's favorite things--frolicking, gbarking, and Teka getting reprimanded.

He also believes that Travis's participation in the movie means that it qualifies as film noir.

Iowa Tornadoes

Update on the awful weather threatening Miss Snickers and Mr. Butcho. This is worse than I thought.

Memorial Day Holiday

Hi Y'all...here we are in Azrizona, waiting for Memorial Day to happen.
Muzzer has a strange notion of what should happen on a holiday! This morning Me and Teka both got showers, then we got fussy red white and blue collars and bandananas. I get to wear my Cardinal Bandana! Teka gots one that has stars and stripes.
The most happiest thing that happened is that my Sisssie E.Rabbit has arrived to pack up her stuff and get it out of muzzer's way! And she knows how to celebrate...here we are begging for a taste of the treats she brought from Dee See. Teka is a bit more aggressive than I am...so what else is new? Here she is showing off, and I am in the back ground, being good and well behaved!

Anyway, we all had dinner, and Teka was allowed out of her crate and went to make a nest in the newspaper box that Muzzer is saving to help with packing stuff. For some reason, everyone else thought that was cute. Sheesh.
I am keeping this post short because I am worried about my friends Butcho and the lovely Miss Snickers and their Mama and Dad, and of course all the koi and wheelies that live with them. They are havin really bad weather in their neighborhood, so I am kind of worried. I am watching the radar screen to see what his happening up there. Earlier there was a tornado really close to them, and in Minnesota, one person was killed. So keep them all in your thoughts and let's hope that we have heard from them by this time tomorrow.

Signing out.

Helping E.Beth Pack

There are two sets of packing boxes littering our house this week.
These belong to E.Beth

Today, Teka and

I have been helping her pack.
Muzzer says we are not much help,
but we prefer to think that we choose our jobs carefully.

See...here is Teka helping get the treat out of the box.

We are also helping Muzzer. More pictures later this weekend.

Disobedient Muzzer

With apologies to A.A. Milne:

Gus, Gus, marvelous Dagger
Wonderful W.F.T
Took great care of his Muzzer
Since he was only three
Gus, Gus, said to his Muzzer
"Muzzer" he said, said he
"You must never go out of this Phoenix town
If you don't go out with me!"
Gus, Gus Dagger his muzzer
Packed up her suitcase brown
Gus, Gus Dagger his muzzer
flew right out of town
Gus, Gus Dagger his muzzer
Said to herself said she
"Why I can go out of this Phoenix town
And be back by half past three"
Gus' Father put up a notice
"LOST, STOLEN or STRAYED!
Gus, Gus Dagger his muzzer
Seems to have been mislayed!
Last seen boarding an Airplane
Quite of her own accord. She thought she could
Go out of this Phoenix town, Quite a Substantial Reward!"
Enough! Enough!
Muzzer has returned. She smells like Aunt Marie, and to my sniffy knowledge has not been consorting with strange dogs.
I am making her sleep in the spare bedroom until such time as she apologies with food.
I will post again after I am groomed and handsome.

Which Celebrity Am I?

Lots of my friends have been going to DOGSTER and taking this new Celebrity Quiz! You go through a whole bunch of questions, and it tells you which famous person you are.

This morning, Muzzer has washed her hair and is helping me blog while waiting for it to get the the point where she mooshes the smelly stuff into it. (it gets ugly around here sometimes, my friends!) So after we found out that Ruby Bleu is most like Madonna! we decided to go over to Dogster and check it out.
Well, I must admit I was surprised and pleased by the results! Dogster says I am most like Mr. Al Gore, a man I admire, who also lives in Tennessee!
Here is what Dogster had to say about me:
"Al Gore : Saving the World
Always the winner of the pawpular vote, Gus Dagger is Al Gore!
Green through and through, Gus Dagger is super-careful about how he marks his territory and goes out of his way to cover his tracks. Though Gus Dagger is a lover and not a fighter, he won't stray from your side when trouble flashes its ugly fangs. Not bothered by superfluous detail, Gus Dagger can be counted on to report back to you with the facts at hand, no matter how nasty they may be. Not one to rely on his top-notch genes and breeding, scratching and clawing his way to the top is Gus Dagger's modus pawperandi."
Thank you Dogster, for the wonderful comparison. And I would have been a lot more flattered if it hadn't been for the fact that I think it was my truthful answer to the fat farm question that tipped the score in Mr. Gore's favor. Otherwise, I am certain that I would have been George Clooney!
PS..TekaToy is Amy Winehouse! could you have guessed?

Hidey Hidey Hidey Ho! Hidey - Hidey - Hidey Hee!
It's ME old friends - Mr. Gussie D.
Wally says I gotta learn to rap you see
I can rap about my muzzer, I can rap about my dad
I can rap about the bestest time that I ever had.

See I went this mornin to a doggie pawt- eeey
For the Ann- i- versary of DWB
And I saw my friends, some old, some new
In fact I think I mighta seen you.

And we talked about our hoomans
That wasn't so bad
Then we talked about some politics
And man, am I glad

That my vote's decided - For my Pawty I stand
I would vote for Snickers, anywhere in this land
I would vote for Butcho, and for Joey too
I would vote for every other doggy too.

Cause the hooman candidates, I don't understand
They have made their speeches all across the land
And they don't say nothin that is news to me
So I'm votin' the doggie pawty you see.

Then me and Teka we will both fade away
And you'll hear from us some other fine day
When we bark for justice, and we take our stand
And we'll throw good parties all across our land.

So watch for our caravan - and Teka and me
As we make our way east to Tennessee
You can get excited - but don't be afraid
Cause this is the firstest rap I ever made!

And I gotta tell you - I do not have a clue
How to end this thing - but I am all through
So the rap ends here - and the packing's at hand
I am helping Muzzer - I'm her sweet little man

My Muzzer is in SUCH TROUBLE

OK, you all know I haven't been able to get muzzer to help on the blog. She is a real mess with this move. She promised yesterday that she would help me tonight. So, I had this list of questions my friends have been asking to answer, and I thought that would make an interesting blog.

What does she do this morning? She gets me all excited and we go to the car and I get in the back seat like a good doggie. And I figure, I have a command performance at the store, because it is Tuesday, and I work M-W-F!

Nope. You know where we went, right? We went to see my arch-enemy...THE VET!

Now..I just went to the vet before my adventure at the PetHotel. So I figured I was good for a year, and maybe by the time I was due, she would have forgotten about it. Nope.

FIRST they took my temperature. And after that humiliating experience, they checked my heart and took me off to get weighed.

The good news is that I have lost a whole two pounds since last year! Wowsers. All that deprivation. All that hunger. All those treats I missed. All those green beans I ate. TWO POUNDS! Yippee

The bad news, I am still "substantial" In fact. I am more substantial than Jackson. I weigh a wopping 14.5 kg. (see his note on my last blog for a comparison.) Now, I told muzzer that I am sure I am much taller than Jackson. But the Doc still says I need to lose some more.

I reminded muzzer that Miss Snickers has a Thyroid problem, and we are checking for that, again. Which meant the blood suckers got me at the vet office too. We are also getting me one additional walkie, all by myself, every day. This might not be so bad after all. But I am still angry at her, and I am plotting revenge on several levels

Well on to my list of questions.

The Pet Hotel was OK. The food was good, they make a mighty fine Kong, and I had a great time in the playroom. BUT. They keep the TV tuned to the Animal Planet all the time !!! No Travel Channel, no Discovery, no SciFi, and worst of all, no FOOD Channel! That is my most critical complaint.

For those who asked, the house thing is moving much more rapidly than muzzer expected.

Our house here sold in three days! We have had the inspection, the buyers have their loan approved, the bank said there is no need to appraise our house because we are not in a "declining market" and we have very minor repairs to make. One of those comes out of Teka's allowance. We close here on June 19th and the new folks will move in that day.

The house in Mayemphissss has accepted our bid, we have gotten our loan approval, and we are waiting to hear if the bank will want to appraise that house. We still need to get it inspected and see if there are any repairs. If all goes well we will be closing there on June 26th, and taking possession on the 27th.

So, that means that we will be trekking cross country during the week between the 19th and the 26th. So all of you doggies on our route had better watch out! I am lookin for a place to "lose" teka!

I Protest!

OK...We just barely got back from the festivities in New York, and climbed out of Air Ruby. Let me tell you pals, there is no party anywhere to match that one that Scruffy, Lacey and BabyStan orgaized for the big welcome home Asta/Happy Barkday Ruby Bleu days this week.

Anyway....I was layin on the floor just kind of chilling out, and I heard this awful rumor. Well, actually, I found it in a note that Butcho wrote!

It seems Muzzer and Dad are headed for Memphis this weekend. And they aren't takin' me along. And they aren't leavin' me and Teka with G-Pop either. NOOOOO.

Me and Teka are going to be boarded at the PetsHotel! Now, I am reserving judgement. It may be an OK kind of place. But .... just in case. Can you send me some suggestions about what I can do to get even with muzzer if I really hate this place?

Do you know, they don't even have computers for me to blog?

Now I ask you...what kind of place is this!

Despondent already

Toasted Ravioli

Folks have asked about Toasted Ravioli. Here is a picture for a basic idea. I asked muzzer to tell how to make them, in case doggies like them so much they want to make them at home.

So: Muzzer says

Make your pasta dough the same way you do for lasagna. If you don't usually use egg in your pasta dough, think about adding an egg white, cause it makes the dough puff up bigger.

Put a clean sheet on the bed or dining room table. Roll out the biggest sheets you can on your machine, and line them up on the bed to dry. keep the dogs away.

Make your favorite meatball mix (chicken, veal, pork and beef here) do not add breadcrumbs, but egg is ok. run it through the grinder another couple of times, so it is really mushy. keep the dogs away.

If you don't eat meat, use a recipe for stuffing that includes spinach and cheese.

Precook this a bit (I am scared to death I will poison someone.

Check the pasta for dog hairs. Take half the pasta to your work area and lay out flat. Put 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoons of the meatball mix spaced evenly down the sheet(s) of pasta. Lay another sheet on top. Cut with Ravioli cutter you inherited from your great grandmother. (or one you bought at Sur le Table)

or Cut round circles of dough, or squares. Put meatball mix on 1/2 of the circle/square. Fold over and crimp edges with ravioli cutter or small tined fork.

Do this until all pasta is stuffed and crimped.

Freeze any you will not use immediately on a cookie sheet(s) in freezer. Store in plastic bags.

OR Buy the frozen ones, it is easier! The only one who can tell the difference is my husband.

Mix Egg and a little water. Pour a bowl of milk. Put a little flour in a small bowl. Make a bowl of breadcrumbs, cracker crumbs or Panko. (I just started using the Panko crumbs and I love it! Fusion cooking!) Line the bowls up so you have: Milk, Flour, Egg, Crumbs. Keep the dogs away.

Preheat your deep fryer or put More Oil than is Good For You in a large pan. The oil must be deep enough to come at least half way up the ravioli.

Dip the ravioli into the milk, then the flour, then the egg then the crumbs. Do this any way you want, use bags for the dry stuff if that works for you. (I end up with clumps in the bag, not much breading on the breadee.)

Put one layer of ravioli in your fryer basket, or in the oil in your pan. Keep breading. Tell someone to keep the dogs away.

The ravioli will puff up as they cook. In the fryer, they will float to the top. In the pan, you have to turn them. Tongs work. They should be a nice golden brown. Lay them on paper towelling or whatever you use to drain stuff that is bad for you but you love anyway. Tell whoever is keeping the dogs away that if he/she doesn't keep them out of the way, there won't be any samples. Cook them all. Hide the ones you are not serving immediately once they cool by putting them in plastic bags or (recommended) spreading them on cookie sheets and covering with foil. They are good for several days on the lower shelf of the fridge, or can be frozen and reheated in the oven.

Most places in St. Louis now serve these with Pasta sauce and grated cheese for dipping.
My favorite is to dip them in melted butter and then roll in the cheese. My husband calls this Heart Attack on a Fork. But they hardly ever make it to the fork. I also like them with a slightly warmed pesto sauce, with lots of garlic in the pesto.

Good luck...there is always someone willing to eat the leftovers.

Five things, by muzzer and gussie

Right before they left for Rome, my urbanista pal and her Mommi posted this tag. They said anyone could respond, so Muzzer and I are responding today, because she is still pretty busy with stuff other than blogging, and she hasn't taken a picture of me in a lonnnnng while!

Happy Vernal Equinox etc.

Happy Spring! Happy Easter! Happy Belated Vernal Equinox! Happy, Happy, Happy.

Except...I am one sad doggy!

I am Neglected.

I am Deprived.

I am Forsaken and Forlorn.

Muzzer is not working on my blog at all!

It is all the fault of this stoopid move that is coming up. Dad is changing jobs on or around June 1, and we are moving to Memphis sometime after July 15th. Lots of things are happening at our house, all of them resulting in less time for the DOG!

Oh, I get fed. I get walked! I go to work. I get scritches. I get FAR TO MANY baths and showers.

But I don't get muzzer to help me blog much at all.

Seems I have been living in a falling down hovel and I never even realized it. Every spare moment (and a few of them that belong to ME!) gets spent "getting the house ready to go on the market." We are pruning, we are planting, we are painting, we are pitching all kinds of interesting stuff into bags for Goodwill, or St. Vinnie's or the Assistance League. WE are even talking about discarding some dog toys! I am not entering into that discussion, and have buried several under what used to the the Lysalloma Bush before the Pruner Par Excellence got her hands on it!

Anyway, I want all my friends to know that it is not my fault that we are not blogging. It is not my fault that we are not on Sunday AM chat. It is not my fault that muzzer falls asleep every night before the 10:00 o'clock news. Please don't forget me, don't forsake me, don't refuse me your forgiveness if you think I am ignoring you. Muzzer assures me that we will be back with more of my adventures shortly after April 1.

OMD! That is April Fool's Day! Do you think she is fooling me? We will just have to see, right?

We will still be reading blogs and making our usual inane and non-relevant comments. I might even pen a few songs - mostly blues. So keep us in your thoughts as we "de-clutter."

We leave you with this very fine award that Lacie, Scruffy and Baby Stan awarded me!
I am a "Totally Hip Blogger!" Which is a great honor, and one I well deserve. If only I didn't think it is somehow related to the photo of me that muzzer posted a short while ago, which seems to be some kind of "in" joke with muzzer and Lacie's mom! Sheesh. Here I am - hoomiliated again!

I would like to pass this along to my new friend Pearl, Opal's new real (not wheelie) puggy who looks awesome in Pink!
kisses

My Muzzer said "hey, Gussie!"

"There's a Party in Soulard"

Now I am just a doggie

But this puzzle is so hard

They had a march this summer

Just to celebrate Bastille

And Beer Fest in October,

Gee I wish I had been there

They had a doggie Parade

Just for Mardi Gras there too

But I have to ask you Doggies

Can you figure who is who

Are these folks French or German

Or they Cajun or from Eire

Aw heck, forget the questions

Just lets goooo and Paarty There.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

O! My name is Gussie Dagger, I'm the leader of the pack

And all the blogging doggies they are marching at my back

There's Asta and Asta and Maggie and Mitch, and Tanner and Joey Too

And lovely Faya far away, and Teka who's right here

There's Butchy and Snickers and Stanley and Stella

And Ruby in the air

There's Wally and Ethel and Ivy and Jackson and lots of others there

We think there are still Barkalots and Axel's coming too

If there were many other's it would look like quite a zoo

Tra la la laaa, la la la laa laaaa, laaaa la la la laaaatra la la laaa, la la la laa laaaa, a credit to all dogdom is Gussie Dagger's pack

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Oh Snickers Dear, I hear my muzzer callin'

From far away, down in the desert sand

She calls me home, to help her with the packing

So we can move, and live near to Graceland

But you are there, in cold and frozen Ioway

And I would stay, with you a little while

So do not bark, and wake up good old Butchy

I'll wait and snooze, til dawn lights up the land.

And then I'll go, and help her with the paaaacking

And you must stay, and help here with the koi

But we will know, when fall comes to this land again

That I'll be closer and I'll be your boy.

Mystery Solved!

Lots of my friends wrote to my blog and guessed who sent my beautiful bowl.

The favorite candidate and leading by a large margin is the lovely Miss Snickers.

She is a super duper wirey girl and my best and sweetest squeeze. However...she did not send me my bowl.

And neither did Joe Stains, the barkey boys, or any of the others guessed by my audience.

NONONONONONO!

The person who sent my lovely bowl is my lovely sister E.Rabbit.

Thank you very much E.Rabbit. You may be getting old in people years, but you will always be a pup to me!

For Butchy, with love and Affections

Butchy's "Gotcha Day,"

He is strong.

Mama and Dad will love him

his life long.

They're on his side

Oh, when the thunder storms

And Butchy hides inside

They are there for safety and comfort

Giving him some love

When he's hungry

Wants to play

When Snickers Bites his nose

Takes his toys away

They're fair and smart

When he needs to pee

Or just to go for walks

They are there for his health and comfort

Giving him some love

They are there for his health and comfort

Giving him some love

Stand up Butchy Boy

Take a bow

You are a wirey fox

You can lick them all

You make us smile

Oh, when you need some love, or just a game of Tug

We'll be there for your health and comfort

Giving you our love

We'll be there for your health and comfort

Giving you our love

Kisses from Gussie, Teka, Muzzer and Dad

A Busy Day for Terriers!

We had a very busy day today. This box came in the mail! It has my name on the outside, so I said:
"Lemme see this thing? What is in here? Who can have sent it to me? Muzzer! Open this box!"
So muzzer opened it...look who has her nose in it already! I told her in no uncertain terms that bowl belongs to me. After all.....I am the Cardinal fan. She wouldn't know a baseball if it bit her! But we still don't know who sent it. There was no card inside. The return address is only for the company that made this. I pulled all the stuffing out and smelled it, and it didn't smell like anyone I know. Still......I think I know who sent it. Why don't you all guess, and I will tell you my answer on Thursday.
Then, me and muzzer went to the store. And I was helping her with the trash. Something very interesting has been in this basket recently. Let me get in here and I will find it!
See, I got the big bag out! And I took it around the counter to investigate. But mean old muzzer came over and made me give back the deeelishous candy wrapper. Sheesh. There was no chocolate left on it. Anyway. I am pretty sleepy now and I'm gonna take a nap.

A Challenge from Lovely Asta

Oh, we knew it had to happen. The latest tag involves books, and muzzer is always chatting with other hoomans about books. So Asta and her Mommi tagged us to tell about our current reading matter:

Here are the RULES:

Rules:
1. Grab the nearest book of 123 pages or more.
2. Open it to page 123.
3. Find the first 5 sentences and write them down.
4. Then invite 5 friends to do the same.

We chose this book for two reasons:

1. My current book is Pokey Little Puppy. It does not have 123 pages.
2. This tag was started by our hooman friend Blue, who lives in the UK. Ruth Rendell is a British writer. It seemed appropriate somehow.

So. The title of our book is Not in the Flesh, written by Ruth Rendell. It is one of a series featuring Chief Inspector Wexford and his pals at the Kingsmarkham Police Force. Here are the first five sentences from page 123

"Old and lonely, she was relishing pouring out her memories to a sympathetic ear. There could be, when he chose, something in Wexford's manner that invited confidences from those who had little opportunity to air their miseries and their grievances. During a quarrel over their respective lifestyles, his daughter Sylvia had said to him. 'You ought to have been a bloody psychotherapist.'

'Well, it looks as if you were successsful as permission was refused.' he said. 'Did anyone else go in there?' "

Muzzer says it is a great book, she highly recommends it, and if she can wrench it away from Dad, she will send it out on loan upon request, since it is currently only available in the UK. US publication is sometime early this summer.

Now, we are s'posed to tag five more people:

We tag: Scruffie, Lacey and Stan
Axel and his Mom
The Whippets and their servant
Joey and Doofus and their mom (we want to know what cook book is good!)
Ivy and BP and their humans. (hmmmm...prolly about human pups)

Thank you all
Gussie
